Conclusion

domingo, 8 de mayo de 2011
Now is the assessment of the presentation document. I need to do it before because I'll out this week, so I'm finishing it today.
I'm very happy with this presentation document, a reflective diary about my work in these months and in this project, that I feel that is a important part of my life now. Soon I'll finish my studies (here, like exchange student, and my master degree in Spain) and I have a bit melancholy, because is the final of five years of studies, works and many unforgettable experiences.
Now I have around three weeks to finish everything, but I'm sure that I'll finish everything on time.
The conclusion of this presentation document is that was very hard to do it, because I hadn't enough time to writte everything and to explain all my ideas, but was a good way to reflect about my work, tutories, projects, ideas,... I hope that it will be interesting for you like it was for me.
Now, I have finished eight illustration, and i have to do four or five more. I hope everything will be fine and that the degree show will be a success, for my classmates and me.
Here finish this reflective diary. Enjoy with my work and the process.

(Work in process): final work, last illustrations

(Own work: A detail of the 1st page)

1st and 2nd june will be the Internal Assessment of the final major project. This is a event with 6 teacher to present my final project and explain it, before the Degree show opening, that will be friday 10th june, at 18.00.
The degree show reparation begins monday 16th may (with the help of BA Illustration level 1 students)and I need to have very advanced all work to that date. So, I'm working very hard to finish all illustrations, to later edit them with photoshop and print the final book, that will be presented in a special box for the degree show.

(Own work: Another detail of the 1st page)

Here I put some of the illustrations I'm finishing these weeks. First, I made the first page, that is the most similar to the firt comic-book idea I had to this project. But know is very different to the first idea, with different shots, perspectives and compositions.

(Own work: Detail of the 7th page)

I really like the changes, because I think that is more interesting graphically. Do it without photoshop is big challenge for me, and I'm working hard to make a good final illustrations, and I think that I'm in the good way.

(Own work: Sketches for more illustrations)

Before start with the final illustrations, first I'm making small sketches (A5 size) to have an idea about how is going to be and if the final composition works. Here you have a few examples of sketches for the 7th, 6th, 3rd and 8th pages.

(Own work: 6th page)

Other illustration in process is the 6th page. There I represent the First love, like the faery queen. Jerric is very surprised about her beauty and he immediately falls in love.

(Own work: Detail of the 6th page)

In these details we can see how I'm working with the mix of two colours: red and blue. These colours work very good, and I think that is a strong combination and a good composition.
Basically, with these illustrations I'm telling the same that I was trying to represent with the comic-book composition, but in a easier way, and with better graphic features.

(Own work: business cards display)

The final date is very close, and I'm starting to be a little bit nervious. I'm stressed, but with energy to be working this last weeks before the special day.
While I'm working in the final illustrations, I'm starting to organize the degree show and all stuff I need for it. In first place, is very important to make special business cards and postcards for promocionate me.
I learnt in the self-promotion project (a work in class to promotion our work and myself like artist)how important is make a good promotion stuff. So, I made two self promotion objects: business cards and postcards, two differentes models of each one.
I'm my tutory of easter with my spanish teacher, he told me somethings about my designs and my logo to change them. I think that were good ideas and I'm very happy with the results. Better designs, good presentation and a selfpromotion that explains better my work and my skills.
Some illustrations or sketches are good examples of my work like illustrator, while the logo and composition talk about my work like designer.

(Own work: final illustration, page number 5)

(Stuff for the degree show)

At the same time that I'm working in the final illustrations, I'm thinking about how I'm going to present my work, do my presentation and prepare the degree show. The Degree show is the final assesment and presentation of each final project of every student of Final Major Project from the BA Ilustration course in the Southampton Solent University.
I had ideas since I was in a tutory with one of my teachers, Peter Lloyd, who explained us different ways to expose our work: with frames, without frames, cheaper stuff, something more expensive,...
I think that for me is better expose my work without frames, because I can't bring them later to my country, I thing that put each illustration with tweezers and nails in the wall is the best way to do it.
Other idea is put each ilustration in the wall, and later make a reduced impresion of the final book, with the cover like a folder to put each illustration in A4 size inside. For expose the final book, I bought a box to decorate it with some adhesive paper (with the design of the inside part of the cover), that I will put in the wall too.
Later, I bought some boxes too, where put business cards and free post cards. I think that is a good way to promocionate myself in the degree show.
